Doing Platysma Muscle Exercises Can Help You Lose A Double Chin
Written by cdreyer03 on June 11th, 2008No one wants to look in the mirror and see double. Double chins, that is. A sign of aging or being overweight is a double chin. The platysma muscle helps us to make facial expressions. As our face muscles weaken with age, we gain a fold of saggy skin beneath the chin. This condition is hereditary for some people but you can tighten and tone the neck to get your face back in the proper shape where it belongs.
The muscles under the chin become weak when they are not receiving enough exercise. You would think talking and eating would do the trick. If you sit at a desk all day, holding your chin in one position, this can cause the muscles to weaken. Like Mom said- Sit up straight! Maintaining a healthy posture leads us in the right direction.
Most adults begin to take on an extra chin in middle age, causing us to do a double take! The first place of any extra weight gained usually shows up in is the face. The face is also the first place to show weight loss. If you have a double chin because of weight gain, losing a few pounds will make a noticeable difference. Before you go seeking a plastic surgeon, let us look for some less painful solutions.
There are easy exercises, which target tightening the platysma muscle. Practice these helpful tips a few minutes everyday for amazing results!
Lie down on a bed. [See, I told you this was going to be easy!] Lie on your side and let your head hang down over the edge of the bed. While in this position, slowly drop your chin and then slowly pull it up. With the chin pulled up, count to 10. Switch sides, and repeat. Do as many repetitions of these exercises as you are comfortable doing.
Sit upright, tilt your head back and look up at the ceiling, close your lips tightly and then relax them. Pucker your lips together, as if you were kissing. Keep your lips puckered for the count of 10, relax, and bring your head back to normal. Repeat.
Still sitting up straight, tilt your head back, and keep your lips tightly closed then relaxed. Open your mouth and stick your tongue, [Be careful trying this one at work!] try to touch your nose with the tip of your tongue. Keep your tongue in this position and count to 10. Repeat.
Stand up straight. Using an inflatable beach ball or volleyball, place the ball under your chin and keep it there. Slowly drop the chin down and hold it while you count to 10. Bring your chin up, and repeat.
You may have a habit of lowering your chin towards your chest that you have not realized. This causes fine lines to develop and the skin on your neck to sag. Chin up! We could not open our eyes without the platysma muscle. The secret to chin exercise is resistance. Not resisting exercise! Smiling is also a great workout for your face!
