How to Lose Fat Under Chin

Written by cdreyer03 on November 18th, 2008

Can diet and exercise melt away chin fat? Opinions vary.

Losing weight should ideally help in the eradication of a double chin but will exercise actually affect the chin?

Does the answer lie in surgery or ultrasound treatments?

Many experts say that the only way to do away with chin fat is through weight loss or resorting to surgery or other medical treatments because they say the chin area cannot be exercised.

They are right only about the surgical bit but misinformed about exercising the chin area. In fact, to eliminate both chin fat and tighten up the sags left behind you will have to both lose weight and exercise the muscles around the chin.

If you have a double chin then most probably you have excess weight on the rest of your body that needs to be cut off. Begin with a diet low in fats and calories and join an aerobic exercise program designed to burn off calories and fats on your body.

Reducing your weight to the recommended level will get rid of the fat that fills your double chin, but for some people (especially the middle aged) the double chin is not completely gone and some area under the chin is left “holding the bag”. Chin lift remains the only further option then, but you can tone the muscles of that area and tighten the area under the chin.

It has neither been medically proved nor disproved that the chin and jaw exercises can cut down the fat from the chin area. But if you go to any weight loss forum, you will find a number of posts about losing this fat with exercises. All these positive testimonies do count for something.

Here we will mention some basic exercises you can make use of to eliminate chin fat and tone up you upper throat and jaw muscles:

Open your mouth, tilt your head backwards gently and then move your lower lip on the top of the upper lip and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times.  Now keeping the head straight take hold of your lower lip and try to touch it to your nose.

This helps to strengthen mouth and facial muscles. Press your hand to your forehead while pushing in the opposite direction with your neck and head. Hold for 5 seconds. Relax and repeat 10 times. This tightens up the double chin.

It is true that liposuction removes chin fat, but remember it is an invasive surgery. There is a risk of physical damage or even a deformity under the chin because liposuction is not very precise.

Before you decide to go for liposuction, remember that it will cost you quite a bit of money and time. Even post liposuction there is a high chance that you will get a new double chin if your body weight was not reduced to the proper level!

But by losing weight, performing aerobic exercises and strengthening your chin and jaw muscles you will have the benefit of losing the extra weight on your body along with eliminating the double chin!
