When it comes to using makeup to disguise a double chin, it’s all about using light and shade. A bit of clever application and you can have a slimmer looking face in minutes. The idea is to disguise any problem areas – in this case a double chin, by shading them out slightly, and highlighting others to bring them forward.

If you can get one, the best makeup to use is a contour kit, it contains a darker powder and a light highlighting powder. The Sleek Make-Up contour kit is a good one and come in at just £6.50 http://www.sleekmakeup.com/en/products/face-contour-kit-light-71.aspx. If you don’t have this though, a bronzer and highlighter will do just fine.

Overall what you are looking to do is subtly darken the excess fat under your chin and then highlight your jaw line to show it off to full effect.

Start by gradually layering some bronzer under your chin. Just make sure you pat and blow the brush on each occasion or else you’ll end up looking like you stuck your face over a sunbed! So it’s a subtle build up of a darker color under your chin that you’re after.

Once you’re happy with this it’s time to highlight the jaw line. You need the tiniest spot of highlighter and rub it into the jaw line well – it’s not meant to be a line, more a hint of light.

Finally add a touch of bronzer to the hollow of your cheeks and a touch of highlighter to your cheekbones to give a more chiseled look to your whole face.

To help minimize your double chin further follow a strict routine when rubbing in your moisturizer. Concentrate on your jaw line and chin and massage the area with swift upward motions to try and help ease the effects of gravity.

And of course stay away from the thick fringe – it will frame your face and only make that double chin more pronounced.

Society and the individual place an emphasis on looks, with even the smallest details potentially impacting personal relationships and the role in the workplace. Women in particular are under a large amount of scrutiny, and the last thing anyone wants to deal with (on top of all the fashion pressure) is a double chin. But it is possible to camouflage a less than perfect neckline by making a few simple changes. How is this accomplished? One of the first changes should impact your hair, making it essential you find the best haircut for double chin cover-ups.

Hairstyles to Avoid

There are a lot of hairstyles that look amazing in magazines, but can place undue emphasis on a double chin. Before choosing a new look, examine it carefully – making sure the tips of the hair do not stop at the base of the double chin or draw your eye down, directing it to the neckline.

Short Haircuts with Added Volume

Choose shorter haircuts that end at or slightly below the ears, and adds volume to the top and crown of the head. This combination of factors draws the eye upwards, and away from your double chin. However, if you have a round or fat face, be careful if you are considering an extremely short style such as a pixie cut. Hair that is too short and lacks volume can have the reverse effect.

When Choosing a Bob is Best

The bob is a timeless and classic haircut, and is one of the best haircuts to hide a double chin. If this is the style for you, make sure to choose the right length. Styles that end at or slightly below the ear or longer bobs that extend below the chin line are the most suitable options. Also, make sure to maintain shorter bobs on a regular basis, otherwise their growth will cause them to reach the chin before you know it – making that double chin significantly more visible.

Bold Volume and Longer Hairstyles

Just because you are trying to camouflage a double chin does not mean you have to maintain shorter hair. Layered cuts and those that encourage volume are great options – but make sure the bulk of the layers or volume do not fall at the base of the chin or along the neckline. Volume should always be at the top or crown to draw the eye upwards and layers should be at the shoulders or below.

Your hair can be an effective tool for concealing a double chin in plain sight. But finding the right haircut is key! With hundreds of choices, and a wide variety of haircutting methods used today, you are only an appointment away from drawing attention away from your double chin, and to the qualities you adore – revealing a more beautiful you in just an hour or two.

Have you noticed your reflection looking a little less smooth and youthful than normal? The cause may not be as obvious as you first think. In most cases, aging is associated with changes in the face, but the appearance of a turkey neck can have a similar impact. If you find this change bothersome, and want to reverse the effects of father time, learning how to get rid of a turkey neck without surgery should be your first step.

Can Non-Surgical Methods Effectively Eliminate a Turkey Neck?

The answer to this question is maybe. It is possible to get rid or a turkey neck without surgery in cases that are just beginning. If you notice the beginnings of a slight sag, or your skin is starting to appear a bit looser than normal these techniques can work for you. However, if you are fighting genetics, your attempts may have a limited impact.

Also, if you have full jowls or severe turkey wattle, these methods will have no impact on your condition. Surgery is the only way to correct severely sagging skin along the neckline and below the chin. Today, surgical hemming, platysmaplasty and cervicoplasty are some of the choices that can be offered by a qualified cosmetic surgeon.

Retail Products Available to Create a Firmer Neckline

The neckline slimmer and Velform chin wrap are two of the most effective products sold today to reduce a double chin and minimize the appearance of a turkey neck. These products improve the muscle tone of the platysma and firm the skin through repetitious movement and stimulation of collagen production. While the results are not guaranteed, many reviews have posted positive results.

Using Neck Firming Creams

Retinol and Retin A are found in many non-prescription and prescribed neck firming creams, and can dramatically firm skin – in addition to removing fine lines and wrinkles, which can make you look years older. Even though these ingredients are typically used to treat acne, they stimulate collagen production. Results are seen in several weeks to a month’s time. Not sure where to start or which product to choose? Talk with a dermatologist about how to get rid of a turkey neck, and decide if topical neck creams will be effective in your situation.

A New Non-Invasive Option

Are you willing to consider slightly more drastic measures to eliminate your sagging neck skin? Then consider the Titan procedure, a new option that offers a no incision neck lift. Compared to surgical techniques the cost is significantly less, and has a shorter recovery time. The primary goal of the procedure is to stimulate collagen production, which will tighten and firm the skin naturally. However, there is one distinct disadvantage, the results are only temporary and the procedure may need to be repeated every 6 months to 1 year.

The above methods can help minimize the appearance of a turkey neck in the beginning stages. But keep in mind, not all of these choices will work for everyone – especially if you are fighting genetics or have a full turkey wattle. However, if you keep your mind open and try various methods (making sure to give them time to work) you may find a more youthful reflection the next time you look in the mirror.

Are you tired of seeing saggy skin and double chin staring back at you in the mirror every day? Or have you tried every neck firming product, facial exercise and other methods that promise a smoother neck line and have had no success? For some individuals, dealing with loose skin and the appearance of a double chin can be an impossible battle to win. And for those who are willing to consider all the risks, benefits, costs and complications, surgery can be a viable alternative.

How to Eliminate Double Chin Formation Caused by Genetics

When genetics cause this unwanted feature to deposit excess fat and loosen skin, many non-surgical options are met with limited success. So if you see a line of double chins on family members or in photographs, you are probably going to develop one too. But if natural and non-invasive treatments don’t work – what’s the alternative?

In these cases, surgery is the only corrective measure that can be used to correct and reduce a double chin. Traits caused by heredity are hard-wired into each cell, which is why it is practically impossible to change them with any other method.

Surgical Treatment of a Double Chin

One of the most popular procedures you will encounter when learning how to eliminate a double chin is the neck lift or platysmaplasty. During this procedure, small incisions are made under the chin or behind the ears to alter the primary neck muscle used in the structure and movement – the platysma. Depending on the individual, the muscle may be tightened and some segments removed in order to restore the appearance of a firm, smooth neckline.

For individuals with excess skin or increased number of fatty deposits under the chin, additional procedures may be recommended. A cervicoplasty is commonly used to remove excess skin along the neckline caused by aging and genetics. This method is also used to correct the formation of a turkey wattle, which is typically seen in older adults. Liposuction or liposculpture is another procedure used in conjunction with other surgical treatments. Because a double chin is frequently caused by excess fat under the chin and around the front of the neck, this procedure is used to maximize the achieved results. In fact, the results are so beneficial many cosmetic surgeons consider this a routine part of a platysmaplasty.

If you are tired of seeing a double chin in the mirror, or feel this feature is adding years to your appearance cosmetic surgery may be the option for you. While this method does come with risks, high cost and some recovery time, it can quickly improve your appearance and boost your self confidence. So before you give up and feel like you are stuck with a bothersome double chin, why not consider all of the alternatives?

Before you choose a medical technique to remove your double chin, research is an essential part of the process. Some of the most effective methods used today are non-surgical and non-invasive, which may cause you to wonder if surgical options are really necessary.

Non-Surgical and Non-Invasive Options Used to Remove a Double Chin

The use of non-surgical, non-invasive methods has become the popular choice for many when it comes to reducing a double chin. But what are the advantages, disadvantages and potential risks?

Not all of these methods are FDA approved – The FDA requires strict testing and review of results before a procedure is used on patients. Some methods are only available in Europe, while others do not have to meet FDA guidelines because they are classified as natural or are approved only for alternate uses. (Lipodissolve, mesotherapy and similar injectable fat dissolving products have recently attracted FDA attention and evaluation because of this.) Before you choose one of these options, make sure it is FDA approved and is being performed by and experienced, board certified plastic surgeon.

The low cost, no recovery, no incision advantage – These techniques used to reduce and remove a double chin are available at a lower cost than surgical methods, with some costing as little as $500 for one treatment. Also, because they are non-invasive there are no open incisions. This means there is no recovery time required, procedures can be performed in 30 minutes to 1 hour and no anesthesia.

A few disadvantages – There are some significant limitations that come with non surgical methods. Larger levels of fatty deposits, sagging skin, turkey wattle and full jowls can not be reduced using these techniques. Also, multiple treatments may be needed – and in many cases, the results are not immediate. Most of these techniques stimulate the breakdown of fatty deposits and stimulate collagen production. Because of this, it may take 2 to 4 months before visible results are apparent.

The Surgical Alternative

For some, surgery may be the only way to reduce and remove a double chin. Others may consider this option because of its advantages over non-surgical methods. Some points to consider while doing your double chin research include:

Permanent results in one session – If you want immediate results, cosmetic surgery could be the perfect choice. While it may take months to see results using the above methods, the result of a platysmaplasty can be seen in weeks. Also, these results are almost 100% permanent (genetics can cause a smaller double chin or sagging skin to reappear in a significantly milder form.) The above methods can require multiple treatments, and the results may only last from 6 months to a year.

Double chin reduction costs – These procedures are more expensive, setting your budget back $5000 or more depending on the surgeon and location. Because this is considered a cosmetic procedure and completely elective, insurance will not cover the costs. So before you decide, be prepared by setting some money aside – or be willing to set up a payment plan with the doctor’s office.

Potential complications – Infection, delayed recovery, bruising and having the procedure not meet your expectations are all potential risks you could face. Talk with your cosmetic surgeon about the risks, complications and concerns during the consultation and prior to surgery.

When you are researching methods used to get rid of a double chin, it is important to compare all the advantages and disadvantages. Keep in mind, not every procedure is right for every individual. But by doing some research, viewing before and after pictures and addressing questions and concerns during a consultation, you will get the best results possible – and your double chin will be gone for good!

Are you ready to eliminate the appearance of a double chin, but aren’t ready for surgery? A common cosmetic blemish, a double chin can add years to your age and attract unwanted attention. While it is possible to camouflage its appearance or use facial exercises, chin wraps and firming neck creams to minimize its impact, these methods may not be enough – or provide limited results. In these cases, the best way to get rid of double chin formations may be with non-surgical and non-invasive methods.

Do These Non Invasive Double Chin Removal Methods Have FDA Approval?

All the non-surgical methods mentioned below have been approved by the FDA. But to avoid complications it is essential to find a board certified plastic surgeon that specializes in this type of treatment.

CoolSculpting

Fatty deposits can be hard to get rid of, even with proper diet and exercise. Why? These two factors can cause fat loss, but it impossible to target exact locations. This means facial exercises and workouts involving the neck, shoulders, upper back and chest can be met with limited results – especially if your double chin is influenced by genetic factors as well.

CoolSculpting uses cyrolipolysis or the freezing of fat cells to destroy hard to remove (or impossible to change) deposits on the neckline and under the chin. Developed by Harvard scientists, this technique can reduce a double chin with just one treatment. However, the best results are seen over time because the body has to reabsorb the broken down fat cells. On average, a gradual change can be seen over the course of 2 to 4 months.

Zerona

Another popular cosmetic technique used to remove fatty deposits and get rid of a double chin is Zerona. Often compared to liposuction in terms of effectiveness, this method uses a laser – meaning no anesthesia, recovery time or incisions are required. During treatment a low level laser stimulates the body to break down fatty deposits stored under the skin, which are eventually reabsorbed by the lymphatic system.

However, this method does require multiple treatments to obtain maximum results. Each session takes approximately 40 minutes to complete over the span of several day. An average treatment schedule consists of 6 appointments scheduled no more than 48 to 72 hours apart.

Ultherapy

Ultrasound is one of the newest techniques used for facial rejuvenation, and ultherapy uses this method to breakdown double chin fat, remove fine lines and tighten skin. Instead of targeting fat cells, radio waves are used to produce low levels of heat – which stimulate collagen production. The beginning stages of the results can be seen after the first session, but the best results are seen over several months time as levels of collagen increase and the body naturally rejuvenates internal cells. The number of treatments used can vary between individuals and is based on the severity of the double chin and condition of the skin. However patients typically schedule 1 to 3 appointments for best results.

Above are only three methods used to treat this bothersome cosmetic condition, and are considered some of the best ways to get rid of a double chin formation. While the results may not be as dramatic as surgical methods, they are low risk, have few complications and minimal or no recovery time. This makes them an ideal alternative for those who want to improve their appearance, but don’t want to go under a surgical knife.

Do you dread having your picture taken because your double chin suddenly seems larger – or maybe one appears out of nowhere? This is a common phenomenon, and chances are you will experience this at least once in your lifetime. Learn how to stop a double chin from appearing in photographs by using some simple and practical tips and techniques.

Proper Posture Changes Everything

A double chin can appear on anyone (even skinny people!) when poor posture comes into play. By standing as tall as possible, pulling your shoulders back and raising the chin while pushing it out slightly can make a double chin appear smaller or make one disappear. Holding your chin downward, tucking the chin toward the neck and slouching all cause the skin and muscle to loose tension and make the neckline appear thicker and bulky.

Facial Exercises in Photographs?

One of the best facial exercises used to strengthen the platysma and reduce a double chin involves touching the tip of the tongue to the roof of the mouth. Repeating this movement while having your photograph can make you more photogenic and make this issue fade into the background. However, doing this may take practice – your smile may appear a bit strained or awkward at first.

Add a Bit of Camouflage

The right haircut, makeup, medium sized jewelry and v-neck or loose collared shirts can camouflage a double chin in daily life. But did you know these same tricks work in photographs too? All of these methods are designed to attract the eyes attention, pulling it up and away from the neckline and chin. Also, posed positions where you hold you head to the side or put your hands in front of the chin can also conceal this unsightly blemish.

Light and Shadow

The level of light in the space determines how shadows are cast, and how many appear. A double chin will appear more prominent in lower lit spaces and where light is cast directly overhead or overhead and to the side. If you are taking a photograph indoors, open as many blinds, curtains and turn on lights when possible. Outdoor photographs should be taken in sunlight, and avoid places that are darkly shadowed. By maximizing the available light sources, you can minimize your double chin.

Learning how to stop a double chin from appearing in photos is easy, and doesn’t require any complicated or unnatural poses. Don’t worry about a less than perfect neckline in your next pictures, use these simple tips – and you will be surprised how stunning you look!

Have you ever noticed that people glance at your chin or neckline before they notice your face? A double chin can attract unwanted attention, even when camouflaged using simple fashion tips and tricks. But sometimes this feature starts gaining a life of its own when accompanied by sagging skin.

Loose skin under the chin is also called a turkey wattle. Usually appearing around middle age, it can become increasingly prominent over several years time. In some people, this becomes and unmistakable characteristic once they have reached their 50’s and 60’s.

What Causes the Neck and Chin to Sag?

Before you learn how to get rid of saggy skin, it is essential to learn a bit about its formation. This condition is usually hereditary, and is seen on the mother’s side of the family tree. That means if your mother and grandmother had a turkey wattle – your odds of getting one just increased. Obesity and weight loss can also cause neck skin to sag as it becomes stretches and contracts with the accumulation or decrease of fatty deposits.

A slightly more scientific answer can be found by looking at the elements inside and underneath the skin. The aging process causes a loss of collagen, which holds cells and skin layers together tightly. As it looses elasticity over time, the skin surface begins to loosen, sag and form wrinkles. Also, age causes the platysma to loose strength and overall muscle tone. Because it becomes weaker and less elastic, it begins to sag along with the skin, forming a turkey wattle with or without banding (vertical lines that run from the chin to the base of the neck.)

Using Thermage to Treat Saggy Skin

Thermage uses radio waves to rejuvenate skin tone, and causes the body to increase the level of collagen production. Ranging in cost from $1000 to $5000 (depending on location), this treatment typically only requires one treatment to create a smoother, well toned neckline. This procedure is only recommended for individuals who have neck and chin skin that is just beginning to sag – and can not be used to correct moderately or excessively loose skin. The success of this treatment method has been debated by medical professionals because the end results often consist of subtle changes.

Surgical Procedures to Remove Sagging Skin

A cervicoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove saggy skin from the neckline, and is often performed in conjunction with a neck lift or platysmaplasty. For individuals with jowls or a full turkey wattle, this is the only means of correction. Once the excess skin is removed, the incisions are secured with glue or stitches. During recovery a compression bandage or chin wrap is used to hold the skin in place while the body heals, and the skin begins to reaffirm.

Learning how to get rid of saggy skin under the chin is as easy as scheduling a consultation with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Depending on your skin and level of collagen loss, they will offer you some potential options (including the ones mentioned above.) Once treatment is completed, your turkey wattle and sagging skin will be a distant memory – and your new smooth neckline will take years off your complexion.

No one likes having a double chin, but many individuals feel they are stuck with this cosmetic eyesore and feel powerless to change it. Cosmetic surgery is one alternative, but is expensive and comes with a wide range of complications and risks. But did you know surgery is not the only answer? Keep reading and learn how to fix a double chin without every having to go under a surgical knife.

Is Double Chin Reduction Possible Without Surgery?

Caused by aging, genetics and weight gain, not all double chins can be treated without surgical methods. Heredity or genetic factors are the hardest to combat – and in many cases impossible to treat without treatment by a board certified plastic surgeon. This is not to say non-invasive methods can not provide some benefit, but expect limited success.

Loss of skin elasticity can cause skin to sag causing the formation of a double chin, and other unflattering features such as the turkey wattle. In most cases this is due to progressing age, but this can be seen in individuals as early as the 20’s. Obesity contributes to this aspect by increasing the amount and number of fatty cell found directly under the skin and on the surface of the platysma. Both of these aspects can be easily treated with non-surgical methods used at home or non-invasive treatments administered by a physician. These techniques are designed to strengthen the platysma, improve muscle tone and tighten the skin.

Who Benefits the Most?

Not everyone can treat their double chin without surgery, even if genetics are not a factor. Many of these methods are used to treat individuals who have sagging skin and fatty deposits that are considered mild or moderate in appearance. Non-surgical methods can not correct problems associated with severe loss of muscle tone or excessively saggy skin.

Facial Exercises

Working out the face and neck is just as important to appearance as exercising the body. Although it is impossible to select the exact spot where fat deposits are removed, it is possible to target the neckline for better results. And building muscle strength and tone can reduce the appearance of a double chin over time – and effectively tighten the surrounding skin.

Facial exercises involve making a series of movements or expressions designed to strengthen the platysma and control the distribution of fat. When practiced 3 to 4 times a week, a double chin can be reduced in size of eliminated completely.

Non-Surgical Neck Lifts

Ultherapy, thermage and lipodissolve are alternative therapies used to treat a double chin that are non-invasive and non-surgical in nature. Designed to breakup fatty deposits and tighten skin, many individuals have reported success using these methods. However, their effectiveness is disputed among some medical professionals and is only recommended for those who have small double chins.

Chin Wraps and Neck Firming Creams

Have your results been limited when using facial exercises or do you need more dramatic results but aren’t ready for surgery? Chin wraps and neck firming creams are popular products used today that can firm the neckline, encourage collagen restoration and reduce the appearance of a double chin. If you are looking for a product to try but don’t know where to begin, using the Velform chin wrap may be the ideal place to start. Even though this product is not FDA evaluated or approved, many individuals have reported a reduction in their double chin in less than a week’s time.

If you are tired of looking at your double chin in the mirror, don’t think that surgery is your only option. Performing facial exercises, using chin wraps, neck creams and non-invasive treatments may be able to give you exactly the results you need and desire!

Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could snap your fingers and have your double chin just disappear? Learning how to decrease double chin formations is becoming an increasingly popular topic today, and has led to the production of a wide array of neck toning products. But what if you could achieve a slimmer neckline, reduce your double chin or make it disappear without creams, chin straps or expensive surgeries? Then why not try facial exercises!

One of the most effective ways to eliminate a double chin, these movements are designed to strengthen, tone the platysma and reduce neck fat.

Neck Rolls

Working the platysma through active extension and contraction is one of the most effective ways to decrease a double chin. In a seated or standing position, extend your spine – creating as close to perfect posture as possible. Hold your head upright, with your chin parallel to the ground. Slowly bend the head forward, but allow your chin to “lead” this movement. Slowly roll your head to the right, front and to the left. If the movement is comfortable for you, continue by tilting your head to the back, completing a circular motion. Perform a semi-circular movement if completing a full circle puts too much strain on your neck. When practicing the latter movement first start by tilting the head forward for up to 10 repetitions and then back for up to 10 more.

Forward Chin Tuck

Begin by sitting or standing tall, with shoulders pulled slightly back. Holding a still as possible, pull your chin straight back. This forces you to tuck your chin, and will make your double chin readily appear – but don’t despair, because this movement is actively toning and strengthening your neck muscles! For maximum results perform this motion but keep your eyes forward, and try to avoid looking down. Repeat for 10 second intervals and repeat up to 5 times per facial exercise session.

Want to make the forward chin tuck a bit more challenging? Perform this movement while holding a tennis ball under your chin. It not only makes this facial exercise more difficult, but it also forces you to focus your concentration on strengthening the platysma muscle.

Side Neck Stretch

Actively stretching the platysma may not dramatically increase its strength, but it will tone and tighten the area – reversing the aging process and reducing the appearance of sagging skin. To perform the side neck stretch, begin by sitting on the floor. Hold the spine straight and push the shoulders back. Then place one hand up to 10 inches away from the hip, with the opposing hand, reach up and fold it over your head. Place your hand over your ear and gently pull the head to the shoulder. Repeat 5 to 10 times if possible – increasing or decreasing repetitions based on your comfort level, ability to gently stretch the neck and level of tension in the neck or shoulders.

This movement may be difficult if you have limited flexibility or muscle tension. It is essential this pose is performed gently and carefully to avoid injury.

Facial exercises can have amazing results when it comes to toning and decreasing a double chin – and best of all they are free! By routinely practicing these movements 3 to 4 times a week, you can slim your neckline and take years off your appearance.
