Chin Augmentation Cost

Chin augmentation, also known as chin reconstructive surgery, is one of the most common forms of cosmetic surgery. Its popularity is due to the fact that it is a quick way to alter the patient’s profile and appearance and to balance facial features. Compared to many cosmetic surgeries it is non-invasive and the chin augmentation cost is relatively low.  Many chin augmentations are performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty, the most common type of cosmetic surgery. This occurs due to the fact that when the appearance of the nose is altered, it is often necessary to also alter the chin in order to balance the
complete profile.

Patients have two options when it comes to the type of chin augmentation they will receive. It is important to fully discuss all options with the surgeon before making a decision, since every face has different needs and patients may find that one or the other type of surgery will better achieve their desired effect. The first type of surgery involves the manipulation of the jaw bone. This type of surgery often has the most dramatic results. The cost of this type also tends to be lower, since it can involve as few as one surgery and does not require any additional implants. This type of surgery also has a lower risk of infection than the second type of chin augmentation.

The second type involves the surgical insertion of a chin implant. Some implants are made from the patient’s own bone, taken from their rib or pelvis. This type of implant may carry a high risk of infection and can be more costly, due to the fact that multiple surgeries are required to obtain the bone for the implant. Another option is to use an implant made from a medical-grade plastic such as ePTFE (medical Gor-Tex), Alloderm or Silicone. While these materials do not carry the same risk of infection, the cost of the implant may also increase the cost of the chin augmentation.

Chin augmentation cost can be hard to pinpoint, due to differences in the costs of doctors, procedures and materials, but one study has calculated the average to be $2 269. Keep in mind, however, that this is only an average. Some doctors charge much more for their expertise, and some much less. Also, that price only accounts for the cost of the chin augmentation surgery itself. Most surgeons do not add the price of the actual implant into their cost and many surgical facilities charge additional fees. There may also be fees for anesthesia and for any antibiotics or pain medication prescribed after the surgery. Many patients must also take time off from work in order to allow for a proper recovery. And while insurance may cover reconstructive surgery resulting from an accident, no insurance provider currently pays for cosmetic procedures. Because of this, many surgeons have begun offering loans that may cover surgery costs up to $25 000 to successful applicants. Because it is a relatively affordable surgery, however, most people charge their chin augmentation cost to a credit card.
